Bizzi Dixon

Basil Dixon (Bizzi) is an extraordinary vocal artist with a passion for R&B, Gospel and soul.  He has scored success on many levels throughout the course of his career and his achievements include touring the US, performing alongside artists such as Eternal and Beverly Knight, becoming a semi-finalist on The Voice UK and leading on a range of youth initiatives.

Born and bred in Leicester, with Pentecostal Ministers as parents, Bizzi’s love of singing dates back to his early childhood.  However, he admits that it wasn’t a smooth route into studying music.  “I was yawning at school – they didn’t allow me to explore the kind of music I was really interested in,” he says. Out of the context of conventional education, Bizzi was able to hone his craft and started learning techniques on the drums, keyboard, guitar and piano. His hard work paid off and after spending time in various church-based and secular bands, the songwriter was picked to sing in UK group Rhythm and Bass. The success of the group took Bizzi on an early nineties US tour.

On returning to the UK, Bizzi was signed solo to Parlophone (EMI) and was able to work creatively alongside artists such as Maxi Priest, SWV and Brandy.  Bizzi cites this as one of the most memorable moments in his career and meeting songstress Mary J Blige sparked further inspiration for the young singer.  Bizzi’s Parlophone release, Bizzi’s Party, gathered momentum on the underground scene, achieved national chart success, as well as urban chart success, and is still a European favourite.

Nowadays, Bizzi uses Leicester as a base and is very family focused. Going back to his roots and drawing on the music of his childhood, Bizzi is the Director of Leicester Community Gospel Choir.  He is a regular artist for 2Funky Arts and travels nationally as a music tutor for young people, imparting industry wisdom and passing on lyric writing skills and vocal techniques.  Bizzi manages his own record label, BME Records. In 2014, Bizzi reached the semi-final of The Voice UK on BBC1, and was mentored by Sir Tom Jones. This was an opportunity for the vocalist to showcase his talent to a massive audience, and has given his profile an extraordinary boost.
