Leicester’s United Caribbean Association was an umbrella group consisting of several African Caribbean groups for the benefit of all the people of African Caribbean descent.  The Centre was the development and headquarters of the group.

LUCA was set up as the first centre for all Caribbean’s within the Leicester area.  It was maintained by supporters of the black community as somewhere that was safe for black people to come together and debate the issues arising within the community.  Many meetings were held within the building inclusive of the police force and leading Leicester dignitaries to better the standard of living for both young and old.

They held summer schools and youth clubs, musical events and dominoes competitions.

Unfortunately LUCA was put to rest when the Curve was built and with the end of an era the building was demolished in 2006
